General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, issued a public message of gratitude to Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi yesterday, following a pivotal diplomatic visit to Cairo.
Taking to his official account on X (formerly Twitter), General al-Burhan shared a photograph of his reception at the Ittihadiya Palace, captioned: “Thank you, Egypt… Thank you, His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.” The post follows a day of intensive bilateral discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis currently engulfing Sudan.
The visit was marked by an expanded meeting between high-level delegations from both nations. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations to achieve “integration and mutual development,” reflecting the historical and fraternal ties between the two peoples.
President El Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s “unwavering position” regarding the crisis. He underscored Cairo’s commitment to safeguarding Sudan’s national unity and territorial sovereignty.
Both leaders agreed on the urgent necessity of intensifying international and regional relief efforts. With the conflict causing severe hardship for civilians, the delegations stressed the importance of providing immediate assistance to those displaced or affected by the violence.
Furthermore, the two sides issued a stern call for the cessation of crimes committed against the Sudanese people, emphasising that those responsible for such violations must be held accountable.
General al-Burhanexpressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s consistent role as a mediator and benefactor. He noted that Egypt’s efforts to resolve the crisis are a testament to the “deep fraternal relations” that bind Cairo and Khartoum.
