Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that infringement on the sovereignty of any Arab state constitutes a “direct threat” to Egyptian and Arab national security. Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call that he received on Monday, March 23, 2026, from Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, as part of the periodic communication to exchange views on the latest regional developments. He highlighted the serious updates in the region, calling for uniting regional and international efforts to avert sliding into complete chaos. Abdelatty briefed Gerapetritis on Egypt’s contacts and endeavors aimed at de-escalating tensions and prioritizing the diplomatic track and the language of dialogue to contain the situation. The Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s total condemnation of attacks on sisterly Arab countries, stressing the need for unifying international efforts to spare the region a full-scale regional war, taking into account the severe economic and security repercussions for both the region and the wider world. Abdelatty underlined the necessity of safeguarding the freedom of international navigation and ensuring it is not disrupted in any way. The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of strategic relations between the two countries, while backing all efforts for de-escalation to avoid the region from descending into further instability.
