FM discusses regional de-escalation efforts with Oman

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq in Muscat on Monday, March 16, 2026, during the third stop of a tour of several Arab countries, to reaffirm Egypt’s full solidarity with Oman amid current security challenges and unjustified assaults. At the start of the meeting, Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Oman during such a sensitive regional time. The minister also praised the Omani leader’s wisdom and his role in mediation efforts and supporting regional security and stability, commending Oman’s self-restraint during the current difficult regional circumstances to avoid further destabilization. For his part, Sultan bin Haitham asked Abdelatty to convey his greetings and appreciation to Sisi, praising Egypt’s balanced policies and stances supporting the security and stability of the Gulf region. Egypt strongly condemns attacks on Omani territory and rejects any justification for such blatant violations of international law and the United Nations Charter, Abdelatty said according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed current developments amid rising military escalation in the region and stressed the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts to contain tensions, de-escalate the conflict and end the war through diplomatic means.
