Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi discussed regional developments with French President Emmanuel Macron during a phone call on Sunday, including the ongoing war in Iran and its implications for the Middle East, according to the Egyptian presidency. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said Al-Sisi expressed deep concern over escalating military tensions in the region, warning that the conflict in Iran could have serious economic consequences, including higher energy prices and disruptions to global supply chains as well as air and maritime transport. Al-Sisi also condemned Iranian attacks on Arab countries, noting that several regional actors, including Gulf states, have sought to de-escalate tensions and pursue a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear issue. The two leaders also discussed developments in Gaza Strip, stressing the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid. They also underlined the importance of launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts while rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians. They further addressed the situation in Lebanon, highlighting the importance of coordination among the so-called “Quint” countries – Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United States and France – to prevent further escalation and support Lebanese state institutions. Both leaders stressed the need to resolve crises through peaceful means and to intensify international efforts to contain tensions in the Middle East. Macron expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in efforts to de-escalate the regional crisis, the statement said. The call also touched on bilateral relations, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, industry, transport and education following the strategic partnership announced during Macron’s visit to Cairo in April 2025.
